Charity night helps raise over £8,000
A FUNDRAISING night held in Crich has helped to raise over £8,000 for the Leukaemia ward at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The evening, at the Glebe Community Centre, was arranged by Carol Isaac whose son Conor, aged ten, was diagnosed with the illness in July 2005.
Since then he has regularly attended the E38 day care ward at the hospital as part of a three-year treatment
programme.
Carol, who runs the Que Clothing shop on Church Street in Ripley, said: "I'd like to thank everybody that gave money, prizes, items to be auctioned and helped in any way. We had over 100 companies donating things for the evening which was a tremendous response."
The Crich Tramway Museum, where Carol's sister-in-law Alison Isaac works, lead the way with donations of food and other items for the event.
A full size, moving Dalek from Dr Who even made an appearance to surprise Conor who is a massive fan of the show.
The money raised will go towards a new computer system, furniture, toys and a Playstation for the ward.
Carol Isaac said: "We had to specifically request it went to that ward so they can get the things they've asked for and need."

"it's behind you!"

I don't normally do birthday parties but Conor is a special boy and this was also a fund raiser.
We managed to sneak Derek into the conservatory at the back of Glebe Field Centre which was no mean feat as we had to negotiate a five foot wall. We were helped by staff from Crich Tramway Museum and they were great.
They had also thoughtfully covered the conservatory windows with lining paper to keep us hidden.
As soon as we were ready the DR Who theme played and Derek came noisily out from behind a curtain. The look on Conor's face was fantastic and made it all worth while.

Derek presented him with an envelope which contained tickets to the Blackpool exhibition.

We posed for some photos and then went for a quick run around the hall but it was so packed Derek could hardly move!

My thanks not only to the many helpers on the night but also to my new assistant for the night, who wishes to remain anonymous!
